Manitoba Hydro Office Headquaters Green Roof Scan
SMT Research has completed the installation and commissioning of three out of the four greenroof decks that are located on the third level of the new Manitoba Hydro headquarters in downtown Winnipeg.
“Vegetated” or “green” roof systems are when plants are placed in a garden-like setting on top of a roof structure. The garden roof areas help control rainwater run-off, provide additional insulation, help reduce carbon dioxide and are aesthetically pleasing. While providing many benefits, a green roof system can also make installing and repairing roof problems a challenge. A membrane breach can be difficult to locate and can lead to the excavation and destruction of large sections of the planted area.
A roof scan is a manual procedure in which an SMT technician comes to the site to evaluate the roof deck to pinpoint the leak. Typical evaluations are completed after the initial membrane and green roof component installations. Then the roof is evaluated on a yearly basis or when a moisture penetration event occurs.
We are pleased to work with PCL construction and Master Roofing with the roof deployment and we are also pleased to work with Tremco as the material provider.
