About Us

About SMT Research Ltd.

SMT Research designs software and electronics used to monitor and evaluate the integrity and performance of commercial and residential buildings. Real-time sensor analysis and remote data collection have paved the way for more efficient, durable buildings, reducing their environmental impact and improving quality assurance in construction.

Demand from research and industry, in addition to recent developments in low power wireless and sensing technologies, led to the formation of SMT by a small group of engineers in 2006. The first product in the company’s Building Intelligence suite was selected as one of the top three innovative technologies in 2007 by the National Research Council of Canada.

SMT has deployed systems across North America ranging from simple wood frame homes, to glass and steel skyscrapers, shopping centers, heritage buildings, art museums, data centers, and national research labs. The Building Intelligence platform addresses the need for automated remote data collection and the analysis of building performance. Building science professionals, construction firms, restoration companies, owners and management companies benefit significantly from data and analysis provided by SMT’s system.
